Hello

I design creative print pieces and engaging websites with close attention to detail.

Portfolio

I design everything from identities to websites and I love working on all aspects of a brand. View my latest work below.

UW-Milwaukee Lubar School of Business

The Lubar School of Business serves a variety of student audiences, from undergraduate to graduate to executives. Maintaining a consistent brand look across multiple platforms and audiences is very important. I've designed a multitude of pieces for the school that do just that, from ads to emails to printed materials.

Graphic Design, Art Direction

UW-Milwaukee Writing Center

The UWM Writing Center requested a new look and feel to coincide with their grand re-opening in a new, redesigned space on campus. I designed a look for their main brochure incorporating UWM colors of gold and black, but mixing in a sophisticated, inviting feel to appeal to their wide variety of audiences from students to staff. This look was carried through bookmarks, flyers, promotional materials and signage throughout the space.

UW-Milwaukee Libraries

A collection of promotional materials designed for the UWM Libraries. Designs were created for specific events happening at the Library, including an event for Library Lovers and a lecture about Lake Michigan. I've also designed bookmarks and trading cards to create awareness for collections and services offered.

Graphic Design, Art Direction

UW-Milwaukee TechStore

The UWM TechStore had a look and feel in place and needed promotional materials to fit within the current brand. Each piece from sell sheets to bookmarks has a branded feel, but can also stand alone as a promotional piece.

Barbara Larsen Consulting

Visit Site

Barbara required an updated identity and a web presence so she could take her business to the next level. I designed a site that showcases her program descriptions and allows clients to contact her for pricing and scheduling. This allows Barb to spend more time doing what she loves: training and presenting!

Kelliann Blazek

Kelliann is pursuing a Masters degree in Journalism with a focus on agriculture. She needed a business card to mainly target an agricultural audience, but she didn't want to rule out the possibility of writing for other publications. I designed a logo that focuses on journalism but also utilizes shades of green for a modern agricultural audience.

Identity/Branding, Graphic Design

Winona State Alumni Directory

It was essential for the Winona State Alumni Office to have a professional design look that fit with their current campaign pieces for the front of their alumni directory. I designed five editorial spreads for the directory, developing a cohesive look for the entire editorial section. The directory is sold to Winona State Alumni and contains contact information for alumni to keep in touch.

Graphic Design, Art Direction

Three Rivers Workroom

Relocating halfway across the country prompted Mary Veglahn to create a new name and look for her upscale sewing business. Because she only commissions her services to interior designers, she wanted to stand out and create a niche for herself in this new smaller market. I designed a logo that gave the new name an emphasis on sewing and an upscale feel with rich, traditional color.

Simply Mabel

Made from Scratch with Love
Simply Mabel was inspired in memory of my talented grandmother Mabel B. Larsen, who created fabulous handmade cards and designs until 2008. Under this brand I design custom stationery, often incorporating handmade elements.

Graduation Invitation

A modern, typographic invitation designed for a college graduation announcement and get together.

Flower Card Set

A set of cards designed for Christmas giving in 2009. The messages on the cards are a play on common card greetings, written to go with the visual imagery.

Birthday Cards

I love birthdays and nothing makes a birthday more special than a beautiful hand-crafted card in my mailbox. In 2008, I started creating one birthday card design each year to send to all my friends and family. I use these cards to practice infusing handmade elements with printed design and strive to create that one-of-a-kind birthday experience.

Mrs. Oktoberfest Invitation

Mrs. Oktoberfest Barb Larsen (La Crosse, WI) 2009 desired an invitation that would entice family and friends to attend the reception that would reveal her identity. Because she couldn't use name recognition to draw a large crowd, she relied heavily on the design of the invitation and mystery surrounding the event.

Baptism Invitation

Jeffrey and Bethany were baptized the day after their wedding and wanted to invite friends and family to celebrate not only their marriage, but their public profession of faith. The invitation was designed to invoke the feeling of water and encourage guests to stick around after brunch and witness their baptism.

Larsen-Veglahn Wedding Stationery

The wedding itself was very traditional with modern touches, while the reception was held on a local yacht. The accompanying stationery worked with both themes by using traditional fonts, a bright pop of modern teal, and handcrafted elements, like starfish tied onto the programs by running ribbon through eyelets.

About

Bethany Veglahn

I love creating meaningful work for clients that fulfills their objectives and helps their business grow. I have a strong attention to detail and believe every piece of a project should get equal attention, right down to the spacing in a phone number. I've designed in both in-house and agency settings and have experience creating identities, marketing pieces, and websites. I am currently employed as a visual designer for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where I design for a variety of schools and colleges on a daily basis.

As a child, I was always coloring, drawing and creating art wherever I went. I remember days at my grandparents' house full of watercolors and oil pastels. My grandparents were instrumental in convincing me to continue and pursue my passion for art. As much as I loved painting and drawing, my favorite thing to do was create cards and flyers on the computer. It didn't matter what they were for; I just loved to do it. I would create signs for my mom's craft room door or newsletters for my friends. In fifth grade, my friend and I created our own restaurant called BJ's Café, and I designed menus, logos, placemats, business cards, advertising, and coffee punch cards. We never officially opened, but I loved creating the whole identity for the company.

Design is not only about creating an eye-catching piece, but also backing it up with research and focusing on the meaning behind the project. I'm passionate about creating the right solution for every company and I start design projects by asking questions, researching, and delving into the brand itself. I love working with people who have a similar passion for their company and what they do.
